About Us
The Albany Club is one of Canada’s oldest private clubs. Founded in 1882 and named after the Duke of Albany,
the Club has occupied its current location for more than 100 years. The Club’s history is reflected not just in its building and archives, but in many events. The contributions of past and current members starting with founding member Sir John A. Macdonald and including each subsequent Conservative Prime Minister are celebrated within the walls of the Club.
Many Prime Ministers have also been members of the Club. In addition to Sir John A. Macdonald, there were Sir John Abbott, Sir John Thompson, Sir MacKenzie Bowell, Sir Charles Tupper, Sir Robert Borden, Arthur Meighen, Richard Bennett, John Diefenbaker, Joe Clark and Brian Mulroney. Many Ontario Premiers have been members of the Club such as Sir James Whitney, Sir William Hearst, Howard Ferguson, George Henry, Thomas Kennedy, George Drew, Leslie Frost, John Robarts, William Davis, Frank Miller and Mike Harris. The present day is equally celebrated through political events covering issues at all three levels of government and speeches by business leaders, newsmakers or journalists, as well as with cooking classes, wine tastings, family events and excursions to the theatre and sporting events. Always a prestigious speaking venue, the Albany Club has hosted many prominent speakers and decision makers, from Canada and around the world. Thoughtful and relevant, the Albany Club’s speakers’ series offers excellent opportunities to entertain clients and guests.
